Hello, readers!

People have asked me, “When is your second book coming out?” The answer is, I don’t know. Getting a book published is a slow process. An author can work on a manuscript for a year or two or three and that manuscript will go through multiple revisions with a critique group, beta readers, and finally an editor. Then it can take a year or more to sell the book to a publisher, if the author is traditionally published like me. When it sells, another editor will ask for changes. There’s also the possibility that the book might not sell at all. If the author self-publishes, he or she can pay to have the book edited, formatted, and the cover designed, and then it can be sold through an online vendor.

My second book is written, and it’s on submission. Now the waiting begins. The working title is Home Free. It’s about a teen girl, her mother and her two siblings. When Cassidy’s mother loses her job and gets behind on the mortgage payments, the family becomes homeless and they sell almost everything they own and move to a campground. Sometimes it’s a short fall from the suburbs to streets.

I told myself I wasn’t going to obsess about whether book two would sell like I did with my first book. So, what am I doing? Writing book three of course! And doing critiques for writing partners. Oh, all right, and I’m obsessing! I check my email multiple times per day for any news about book two. Going on submission is both exciting and nerve wracking. Will it be published? I hope so. But if not, I’ll be ready with another story.
